Mission Statement

To provide Equine Assisted Services (EAS) in Therapeutic Horsemanship and Learning that benefit area adults and children with disabilities, and children and youth with complex trauma. To educate health, equine, and local communities about the benefits of EAS.

What We Do

Fair Hill Therapeutic Riding Center provides Equine Assisted Services in Horsemanship and Learning.

Equine Assisted Services provide a platform to create a conduit between humans and equine that rewards participants with enthusiasm and excitement while realizing multiple underlying achievements. Therapeutic, or adaptive riding skillfully makes the health benefits of horses and riding accessible to all.

Fair Hill’s judgment-free environment promotes independence and self-advocacy and develops the participants’ horsemanship skills which in turn manifests into confidence-building, as well as physical and emotional strength.

Who Do We Serve?

Therapeutic Horsemanship participants range from very young, starting at age 4, to adults with a variety of diagnoses including but not limited to cerebral palsy, autism spectrum disorder, multiple sclerosis, intellectual disabilities, Down syndrome, emotional disturbance, ADHD, sensory processing disorders, and learning disabilities.

Our Programs - Designed to meet the individual needs of each individual, or group.

Equine Assisted Learning

Stable Moments

The Stable Moments® Program is a 10-month, trauma-informed mentorship program that helps foster and adopted youth develop essential life skills for a successful transition into adulthood. By pairing participants with mentors and equine partners for one hour per week, the program builds self-worth, decision-making, and regulation skills while providing individualized support to meet each child's unique needs. The long-term goal is to break harmful cycles and foster a generation of resilient, healthy, and productive individuals.

Horse Powered Reading

The Horse Powered Reading® Program combines equine-assisted learning with literacy development to help children overcome reading challenges. Facilitated by a trained instructor, the program incorporates horses to build connections, foster curiosity, and enhance learning through hands-on, experiential activities. By addressing skills like phonics, fluency, vocabulary, and comprehension, the program promotes critical thinking and emotional growth, offering immediate feedback and support tailored to each child's needs.

Therapeutic Horsemanship

Equine Assisted Services in Horsemanship involves mounted and unmounted activities specifically designed for the individual needs of each participant. Therapeutic, or Adaptive Riding contributes to the cognitive, physical, emotional, and social well-being of individuals with disabilities.

Our Therapeutic Riding Instructors develop lesson plans that include activities and fun, creative games to develop horsemanship skills and provide the healthful benefits of interacting with horses. In mounted activities the rhythmic movement of the horse moves the rider’s body in a manner similar to the human gait, developing muscle strength, balance, cognition, and sensory/motor skills.

Horseback riding can be relaxing (calming) or invigorating, depending on the horse, the environment, and the activities the instructor may present. Taking place indoors and outdoors, with the horses, other riders, the instructor, and a helpful team of volunteers, riding has social benefits within a judgment-free community.
